CUSTODY & PARENTING TIME ISSUES

Custody & Parenting Time Issues

Custody and parenting time can be the most difficult issues in a divorce or between parties who have never been married. Tonneman & Connors understands the importance of your relationship with your children and will assist your goal of obtaining a decision that is in the best interests of your children. Custody has two aspects: legal and residential. Legal custody designates decision making power regarding matters of importance in your child’s life such as medical, educational and spiritual decisions or decisions affecting their general welfare. Residential custody involves the physical residence of the child. Parenting time refers to the schedule established by the court or the parties by agreement.

Custody & Parenting Time Issues

In some cases, parents seek joint legal and joint residential custody with equal parenting time. In other cases, parents seek joint legal custody and primary residential custody with parenting time allocated to the other parent. There are also cases where parents request sole legal and residential custody with limited parenting time or even supervised parenting time for the other parent due to concerns about the fitness of the other parent.
